IMPRESSIVE 1940s\' BLACK FELT TILT HAT WITH AQUA FEATHER & BLACK VEIL
download picture
description
This is truly an outstanding black felt hat from the fashionable 1940s\'! The black felt hat consists of a taller, rounded crown and a short brim that extends at the back to create a sort of a cap. There is a beautiful aqua colored ostrich feather that projects upwards from one side, and turns gently down on top. An elastic band is attached to the inside of the hat got keep it in a tilted position. There is a beautiful black veil finishing this stunning look.
Tilt hats were popular in the 1930s and 1940s. They were worn at an angle and held to the back of the head by a strap, rigid ring, elastic band beneath the hair, or a combination of these. 30s Fashion certainly seemed fussier than the 1920s with its relentless ornaments of bows, trims and frills.
Label: NEW YORK CREATION
The New York Dress Institute was formed in 1941 by fashion publicist Eleanor Lambert as a joint venture between the clothing manufacturers of New York City & the ILGWU. The label was created by a group of well-known designers who wanted to remain anonymous & wanted to support the New York Creation label & keep it competitive with French styles of the era. The label is small, white and bluE.
This is an authentic piece of fashion history! This hat is in wonderful vintage condition & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years. Feathers, straw, flowers & veils are fragile, given their age. Mannequin not for sale.
